Clearing Location bar history

This article describes how to clear single items or all items from the Location bar history.

Clearing all items for a single site

  1. On the menu bar, click on the History menu and select Show All History to open the Library window.
  2. At the top right corner, type the name of the website you wish to forget in the Search History field, and press Return.
  3. In the resulting list, hold down the Ctrl key while you click on the site you wish to forget, and select Forget About This Site.
    NOTE: Using Forget About This Site will remove all traces of that site from your History. For more information, see Clear Recent History.
  4. Close the Library window.

Clearing a single item from the Location bar history

  1. To clear a single item in the Location bar history, click the drop-down arrow in the Location bar.



  2. Press the Down arrow key, or move the mouse, to highlight the entry to delete.



  3. To clear the highlighted item, hold down the Shift key and press Delete on your keyboard.
The item is deleted.

Clearing all items in the Location bar history



Note: If you see items with a star, those are Bookmarks and not part of your browsing history. This is part of the Firefox Awesome Bar feature. If you don't want bookmarks to appear in the Location bar, see restricting Location bar suggestions.
  1. To clear all Location bar history, click the Tools menu, and select Clear Recent History....
  2. In the Clear Recent History window, set Time range to clear: to Everything.
  3. Beside Details, click on the arrow button, then select Browsing & Download History.
    • Note: Be sure to de-select any other items that you do not want to be cleared. See Clear Recent History for more information.

  4. To clear all items in the Location bar history, press Clear Now.
The Location bar history is cleared.
